What are those black streaks on my roof?
- Those black streaks are Gloeocapsa magma — a blue-green algae that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles. It literally eats your roof, breaking down protective granules and shortening your roof's lifespan. It's not dirt or pollution. Our Pacific Northwest climate of rain, shade, and moisture creates perfect conditions for this algae to thrive.
Do you work in rain?
- Yes — we're a Pacific Northwest company. Soft washing and pressure washing work fine in light rain, and many of our best results come on overcast PNW days. We reschedule for severe weather or high winds. Lighting installations may require dry conditions for electrical work — we'll coordinate with you if weather becomes a factor.
What is soft washing and how is it different from pressure washing?
- Soft washing uses low-pressure water (165 PSI — your garden hose is about 40–80 PSI) combined with specialized, biodegradable cleaning solutions that kill moss, algae, and organic growth at the root level. Pressure washing blasts surfaces with 2,000–4,000 PSI. For roofs, pressure washing strips protective granules from shingles, forces water underneath, and can void your warranty. Soft washing preserves your roof while delivering results that last 3–5 times longer.
